Public history declared its appearance in Russia in the beginning of the 21stcentury. Public history breaks its way through conflicts with state policy and historians. In Russia, the emergence of public history reveals the state’s desire to monopolize public space associated with the past. This new direction, consequently, cannot find a constructive dialogue with the state, society and professional historians in Russia. In Russia, the emergence of public history was a response to the desire of the state to monopolize the public space associated with the use of the past.
